My daily COVID-19 journey

A brief background:

I attended a birthday party ๐ŸŽ‰and had too much sugar aka cakes ๐ŸŽ‚ and other desserts ๐Ÿฎ that night and the day after. The attendees were all living in the same building with less than 10 people but the party was held in an enclosed flat.

Day 1 (April 1, 2021)

I woke up with a sore throat. I am not new to this because I have very sensitive tonsils and they can easily get swollen whenever I consume lots of sweets and not drink enough water๐Ÿšฐ afterwards. I tried home remedies such gargling with warm salt water, consuming Strepsils every 4 hours and drinking hot water with Thieves essential oil to ease the pain but to no avail.

Day 2

The pain won’t go away so I examined my tonsils and found some white patches on the right tonsil, an indication of infection. I then decided to take an antibiotic (Co-Amoxiclav ๐Ÿ’Š).

Day 3

After 3 doses of antibiotics, there were no significant changes in my condition so I changed the antibiotic to Eythromycin hoping that the pain will be gone. I still continued to work and prayed that my condition will get better since I started antibiotics. I also developed runny nose ๐Ÿ˜ช.

Day 4

I now have taken another 3 doses of the new antibiotics (total of 6 doses) but the pain didn’t decrease rather became more intense. I was starting to get worried because this was the worst sore throat I’ve ever had in my life. On top of the antibiotics, I still continued my home remedies. While at work, a colleague was diagnosed of COVID-19 and I was exposed to her in some occassions.

Day 5

Finally, the antibiotics have started working on my throat, I was somehow relieved but my sense of taste and smell were diminishing.

Day 6

Sore throat was minimal but I totally lost my sense of taste and smell. This time, I have decided to consult our doctor and asked if I can have a swab test to determine if I have COVID-19. I had the PCR test and continued to work until the closing time. I was advised to isolate my self until the result was out. The waiting game was killing me. I started reading the bible again.

Day 7

The pain in throat and white patches were totally gone. Results were out by lunch, I was positive, I contracted the coronavirus disease ๐Ÿ˜”. (day 1 of my sick leave)

These are the 'ayudas' from my friends. I placed these chairs just beside the door so it's very accessible for all. Special thanks to Kuya Al and Joan for taking good care of me (talk about hot meals every time ๐Ÿฒ ๐Ÿ˜‹)

Day 8

I didn’t have appetite because of the lack of smell and taste (๐Ÿ’ฏ% gone). Everything was so bland. ๐Ÿคฎ But I had no choice but eat since I need to it to fight the virus.

Day 9

I can now partially (10%) smell and taste strong spices such as cardamom, chilly and citric food. I was very grateful for this development because it's a sign that my body is fighting. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป I also started using the treadmill for a 15 minute walk. ๐Ÿšถ‍♀️

Day 10

My appetite had increased, I can now taste some salty and sweety foods. I also started sniffing on fresh ground coffee in the morning to check my sense of smell.

Day 11

My sense of taste has probably increased to 30%. By afternoon, I had clogged nose again, sense of smell didn't change which was at 20%.

Day 12

No new significant changes. Clogged nose was relieved. I've decided to cut my hair ๐Ÿ’‡

Day 13

Sense of taste is about 70%, while smell is unchanged at 50%. I'm starting to get bored so I started to watch a new series called "The Irregulars".

Day 14

With my newly cut hair, I then colored them for a new look. While my appetite was back, I can say that my sense of smell has not returned to normal. According to some, it would take at least 6 months to fully recover your sense of smell. I also ironed my uniform in preparation for my return to work.

Day 15

My sense of taste had fully returned and I can partially smell essential oils while diffusing ๐Ÿง–‍♀️ (around 80% of smell).  I have finished my quarantine days but I chose not to get out of my flat yet.

Day 16

General cleaning of house was done and my housemates were back later that night. I still wore mask around them.

Day 17

It's nice to be back to work.

I didn't have a swab test prior to joining because according to WHO, after 10 days of quarantine, one is considered recovered and cannot infect others. I still continue to distance my self from others just to be sure.

Everything seemed fine until...

Day 29

I felt weak and had episodes of pricking chest pain, it was as if a heavy object was placed in my chest. I tried to ignore the symptoms and just lied in my bed but the pain won't go away. I even took antacid tablet and omeprazole capsule but nothing had changed. I just went to bed early and prayed that everything will be alright.

Day 30

I woke up with the same feeling and later that day I had to go to work. I consulted our doctor about my condition and he just told me to take enough rest and do steam inhalation everyday which i followed religiously.

Day 31.

I felt better and the pain went by unnoticed. Thank God ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Day 34

When I thought everything was all good, I had an episode of palpitations and hyperventilation while I was inside the supermarket. I was wearing an N95 mask and I couldn't breath. I had to get out of the store to catch my breath. I was all alone and it was a tough moment for me. I even cried because I thought I was dying.

After about 20 mins, I went back to the store and had to change my mask to a regular surgical mask to ease my breathing and had to finish my grocery shopping early so I can take enough rest.

6 months after...

As days passed by, I felt better. I didn't have any other episodes of chest pain, palpitations nor cough and colds. I maybe healed but my body has undergone a lot of changes after this Covid-19 infection ๐Ÿงฌ. Now, I am trying my best to be more healthy and active. I tried to be more conscious about the food I eat ๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿฅฆ and to do some exercises ๐Ÿƒ‍♀️ ๐Ÿง˜‍♂️ at least once a week.

I am proud to say that I beat "Covid-19".

I am a Covid survivor ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

so I urge everyone to remain vigilant,

to still

Practice social distancing๐Ÿง‍♂️.... ๐Ÿง‍♀️

Wash hands ๐Ÿ’ฆ ๐Ÿ‘

Wear mask ๐Ÿ˜ท

Get vaccinated ๐Ÿ’‰

P. S..

Let us all claim that this pandemic will be over soon. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Stay safe ๐Ÿค—♥️
